My Stories

I write adventures for those in search of a good story. My novels fall in the Fantasy genre, but many people consider them Sci-fi too. Each story is written with what I look for when I read a book: action, adventure, twists and turns, love, heroes, vicious enemies, fighting (weapons and hand to hand combat). I write because I want to share the stories that are inside of me. I hope you enjoy the adventures as much as I love writing them!

I CAN write!

You can't write.  Where's the effort.  My papers came back bleeding from all the red ink that my teacher's had used.  I remember thinking why even try.   I threw out all my stories that I had written, stored away all my poems, and tried to figure out what I was going to do when I grew up.   I sometimes wonder if someone would have said, "we need to work on your grammar because you've got talent", if I would have stuck with my aspirations to be a writer.  Oh well, what ifs don't work in the life of today.

Today, is where the story is - where the dream came alive - and no one is going to tell me otherwise.  It did help that I actually have people wanting me to succeed this time.  It's definitely nice to have a cheering section (even if it's just one person).  Especially for those days when my past tries to hold me down, and the whispers that built my insecurity feel like hurricane strength winds pushing against me.

My cheering section started with a ten year old boy that was so excited about me writing a book that he imagined me famous before the idea ever settled into my head that maybe I could be a writer of something that anyone else would want to read.  This boy, now twelve, read my first book in two days and with excitement said "you need to write more."   My family and friends are doing their part to not let the strength of my dream falter in me.

I used to be told "You can't write", and now I'm told "This is great!  I can't wait to read more!"  I used to be worried that people were just saying that because they couldn't believe that I wrote it, but then I realized that they were being honest - I really could write a great story.   And now, for the last  two years, instead of writing  just for me because I believe that no one will like it anyways, I wrote for everyone because I know that people enjoy a great story.   For the last two years I have begun several stories.  One is published, one is just about ready, another is close, and several more just need my undivided attention.

I can write great stories!

"The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do." --Sarah Ban Breathnach

I am proud to be a dreamer and a doer!  I thank the Lord for giving me the ability to write - for allowing my inspiration to be over-flowing.   I had been praying and looking back I think he had been trying to talk to me for a while I just wasn't listening - or more honestly I wasn't willing to believe it was even a possibility.   I remember waking up one morning, and feeling compelled to write about a dream that I just had.  I was reluctant, but the thought was persistent.   Once I sat down to write though, it became an obsession.  The story just flowed from my mind - I really couldn't stop the ideas.   As the story began to grow, it ended up nothing like what I had dreamt.

Writing Taken was inspiration in itself.    The idea may have came from a dream I had while I was sleeping, but it became the dream that I had always had for myself.   Not just to actually publish a book, but to be able to write a story that captivates people and keeps them turning the page.  I wanted to write a story that when the last page is read, the reader says I hope she writes another

Listen to your heart.

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” -- Steve Jobs

I am so glad that I listened to my inner voice (the Spirit that lives in me)!  It rescued me from the darkness that I had allowed myself to be swallowed by, to fight against the insecurity that others had instilled in me about my writing, and now I'll be sharing Taken with you in less than a week - not to mention, I have a few more stories that I'll be sharing in the near future!  The quote above grabbed my attention and I had to share it with you.   It is the perfect motto for living your dream!
